Dior’s Latest Christal “8″ Incarnation - An Art Deco World Timer Watch

Christian Dior has been making remarkable strides in watchmaking over the past several years. The year 2009 was the marked the beginning of a collaboration with movement designers Franck Orny and Johnny Girardin, resulting in the Christal Mysterieuse. The Chrystal Mysterieuse fascinated the watch world with its six layered crystal plates that rotate to tell the time. This year’s “8″ watch does not disappoint - taking some of the concept a step further to include a world timer function.

The sub dial shows the time in 8 zones simultaneously, and revolves in 24 hours. The face of the dial revolves every 12 hours, and the second hand, as one would expect, once every 60 seconds. The watch is a limited edition of eight pieces. The design combines 18K gold, mother of pearl, and lacquer.

The New Dior Deco Watch - note the skeleton dial and time zones on sub dial

The watch was named 8 for Christian Dior’s lucky number (ergo the eight time zones) . His passion for Art Deco was well-documented, so this watch is a very fitting homage to the founder of the brand. Notably, at Mr. Dior’s first fashion show in 1947, the first section was called “En Huit.”
