Jeager LeCoultre’s Atmos Clock - Ultimate Perpetual Motion

Jaeger LeCoultre’s Atmos clock is a timepiece that runs without a battery, winding itself with a mechanism that is sensitive to the small fluctuations in the temperature of its surroundings. The clock has been made by the company for more than 80 years, and is a testament to the ingenuity and pioneering spirit of the brand.

A Close Up of The Limited Edition Atmos Astronomique

Jeager LeCoultre continues to introduce new models every year. In 2007 the Atmos Astronomique was introduced, with an image of the Northern sky on a rotating disc, and an equation of time indicator. The clock features two glass “wings” (not shown in our photo) that depict constellations as animals and signs of the zodiac. The designs are inspired by Andreas Cellarius‘ cosmic atlas, the Harmonia Macrocosmica.

In 2000, the amazing mechanics of this clock even allowed Jeager to create a Milleaire version that will keep accurate time, day, date, leap year, and moonphase until 3000.

This year Jeager invited Marc Newson to collaborate on a case design, which he did in clear crystal. However the classic brass case with glass on all four sides is an enduring classic and coveted by collectors worldwide.
